What is the SOMBR Run?
The SOMBR Run stand for the Steve Owens Memorial Benefit Run. It is a Poker Run that the Midwest City Citizen’s Academy Alumni Association puts on every year to raise money for our 1st Responders or Support Staff who are battling cancer. We have several popular storefronts/stops for the run to get everyone involved. Registered riders each get a form to bring with them to each stop and they draw cards to see who can get the best (or worst) poker hand. Prize money is given to the winner, runner up and worst hand. On top of the Poker Run itself, we also have several raffles that you can buy tickets for. The winner gets to walk away with the prize. Some of our raffle prizes in the past have been Firearms, Knives and Accessories, Tattoo Sessions, Vacation Trips and several other prized donated by businesses in the Midwest City area.
Each year, the city comes together to support the recipient and we see a HUGE outpouring of love and support. What makes our Poker Run special is that you don’t have to ride a Motorcycle to participate! Although Motorcycles are a huge part of this event, we also get our 4 wheeled counterparts participating as well. Each year, the event gets bigger and we are continually blessed to be able to support the men and women who support us.

The History Behind SOMBR
The SOMBR Run was developed in 2007 when Lt. Steve Owens was first diagnosed with cancer. He never waivered in his faith and trust in God and his shining example has been an inspiration to many of his co-workers and the citizens of our city. His concern for younger people was evident by his work with the youth of his church and his anti-drug presentations at our local schools. Steve was a friend to all, regardless of their economic or social standing. Lt. Steve Owens’ battle ended on May 5, 2010. The SOMBR Run lives on each year in his remembrance.
